These Written Whispers

Today is the day

Today is the day, finally it has come! Today, I will sit down and write! That’s right! I’m actually going to sit my ass down and work on my stories. I’ll probably work on about three or four and hopefully, maybe, finish a short. If so, that’ll be pretty awesome. If not, oh well.

Of course, this is something that I think almost everyday. Life always seems to get in the way, at least, that’s my excuse. Three kids, full time job, household responsibilities, they sure do take up a lot of time. Today though, being that it is my day off, the house is half way clean, I cooked enough yesterday for today and it is raining out, I really can’t find a reason not to write. Especially now that I’m 3/4s the way through a pot of coffee, I’m amped up and ready to go!

Now, if only I would stop procrastinating and actually get down to work. Wait, I need my notes! And more coffee! I wonder what funny videos are floating around youtube right now? Damn distractions! At least the kids are keeping themselves entertained and leaving me be.

Lateralus by Tool

So, in the past I’ve only featured a single song but with such an amazing band as Tool, I couldn’t pick just one so I went with the next best thing, an album. This album, Lateralus, is one of the most inspiring albums I’ve come across.

This album did extremely well, being certified double platinum and platinum, as well as just being kick ass in general. They won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance, in 2002 for the song Schism off of the album. I was fortunate enough to peep out a show stop for this tour and it was amazing.

When it comes to Tool, you can immerse yourself in any album and not be disappointed. They are the epitome of inspirational, progressive music and should always be used as a point of reference when trying to push yourself forward. I could easily feature this band with every post but I figure just featuring a full album for them would work. If you’re ever in need of inspiration, check this guys out, you won’t be disappointed.

These Moments We Call Ours

As we grow, our lives seem to with ever increasing complexity and various forms of control. At least, mine does. Started out life with my parents controlling things for a bit but they eventually gave up on that. As long as I didn’t drop out of high school, smoke weed around my mom or get arrested(even that wasn’t exactly strictly enforced), I was free to float through my life as I pleased.

It looked, for quite some time, that I would turn out like my father and I’m sure, in many ways, I am. Thing is, he and I had a bit of a falling out some years back, I quit smoking weed and became more like my mother. Hard working, going out of my way for others, being, in general, a damn good stand up person. Problem with that.

We can’t live our lives making sure others are happy, that includes our significant others. I’m not going into details but lets just say that much of I was has been outlawed by partner. Our relationship has gone from crazy passion to responsible parents and with that, a lot of who I am was kicked by the wayside.

How is that we see that as acceptable? That forcing people to change is ok. What happened to falling in love with the person and being content with them? I don’t have answers for these questions. Maybe some of you do.

As I type this, I am on the verge of some mid life crises(hopefully not) and if this is my mid-life then I will be dying in my mid sixties, which I guess would be ok though I was hoping to live long enough to sit around in my underwear on my front porch shouting obscenities at people passing by and smoking a long curled pipe.

With that, I wonder also: Are our moments ours, or are they just on loan to us?
